This popular place with visitors and locals is directly adjacent to the Place of Refuge, now a national park, was a great place for the kids to play in the water and for Dennis to snorkel off the lava shore. Darby wore some goggles and stuck her head in the water from time to time looking at the array of local fish.
Austin would swim a bit farther out looking for honu and other wildlife. They also wasted the day away while on the 150foot beach line.
The rest of the shoreline in this particular place is all lava flow with a place the people call two-step where snorklers and shore divers can easily enter the water. Dennis used my goggles and snorkle to take some more pictures with the cameras the kids were gifted for Christmas.
Unfortunately, we had no flippers to aid in better swimming and since he is the more experienced surface swimmer he was the only one to snorkle that exact location. Except for the minor abrasion to Dennis' foot we want to head back for snorkeling again. This time we will be more fully equipt with booties and fins!
